Artist's Description

A Mandela of sorts, or perhaps Christian iconography representing Hindu theology. In the Katha Upanishad, the main protagonist, Nachiketa, offends his father who then gives him over to death. Accepting his fate, Nachiketa travels to the House of Death to learn the meaning of Life. The grim reality is that all of us are given over to Death at the moment of birth. The manger, therefore, becomes a metaphysical grave leading to...rebirth? A Mandela of sorts.
