Description
Caution: staring too long at this image may cause severe cognitive dissonance resulting in cranial detonation. Two expatriated Russian artists now living in the United States, Vitaly Komar and Alexander Melamid, received a grant to study people's preferences in art around the world. They found that most people in the world disliked abstractions, especially paintings with jagged lines. The colors they least liked were orange, yellow, teal and gold. People's favorite color by far was blue. "In the Land of Blue and Gold" is an abstraction with jagged yellow lines. It also has a lot of blue, so be careful, like I said, staring too long can cause you head to explode. (Komar and Melamid used their survey information to create works containing favorite and least favorite subjects and colors. The one painted for the United States was a scene containing lawn, trees, water, blue sky, children, deer, George Washington and a hippopotamus. People apparently like famous people and animals as well as blue skies. Komar and Melamid were trained as socialist realists but they have become universal rascals.)
