Artist's Description
Everyone knows the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. What almost no one knows is that there was another and more devastating fire on that exact same day in Peshtigo, Wisconsin. It was a forest fire, the worst in American history. It burned over 1 million acres and killed anywhere from 1200 to over 2000 people. The fire storm contained winds of over 100 miles per hour, and the people trapped in that storm must have felt like they were in hell.
