Artist's Description
The tree has long been a symbol of the connectedness of heaven and earth. In Norse mythology, the ash tree Yggdrasil supported the entire universe. Its branches and roots connected all the realms of existence - Heaven, Earth, and Hel. The Norse creation myth describes humans as having been created from trees - man from the ash, woman from the elm. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus cures a blind man. After the man regains his sight, Jesus asks him what he sees. The man replies, “I see people moving about, like trees walking.”
